Augusta Kentucky

Augusta, Kentucky, is located in northeastern Kentucky. The main road through the city is Route 8. Augusta sits along the Ohio River and is approximately 40 miles from Cincinnati and 20 miles from Maysville. Philip Buckner founded the town in 1786. Singer Rosemary Clooney owned a vacation home in Augusta.

The Augusta Distillery

In June of 2023, Augusta Distillery’s 13-year single-barrel bourbon was named the best single-barrel bourbon in the world. This accolade came from the San Francisco World Spirits competition. The award is a tremendous accolade for a relatively young distillery in the bourbon universe. The distillery was founded in 2018 and opened its tasting room in 2022.

Old Route 8 Cask Strength Bourbon

This bourbon has a robust taste with a deep amber color that signals maturity. Containing a mash bill of 74 percent corn, 18 percent rye, and eight percent malted barley, we can speculate the source is Barton in Bardstown, Kentucky. Old Route 8 is an outstanding bourbon and adds credibility that their Buckners is not a one-hit wonder. For a full review of Old Route 8 Cask Strength Bourbon, please watch our video HERE.

KY Route 8 is named the Mary Ingles Highway.

Mary Ingles may have been one of the first white female settlers in Kentucky. The Shawnee captured her and her two sons and moved them far away from her home. Eventually, Mary escaped with another captive while collecting salt at Big Bone Lick. They traveled as much as 500 miles and crossed over 140 creeks and rivers to escape. Forty-two days after leaving Big Bone Lick, Mary reached a friend’s home. Miraculously, both women survived the ordeal. Today, you can visit Big Bone Lick State Park and see a buffalo herd.
